Serine Benefits

Serine benefits are varied, and are most felt in the areas of the nervous and immune systems.

Serine is an amino acid that contributes to several bodily processes, most notably in the functioning of RNA and DNA, formation of muscles, metabolism of fat/fatty acids, and the maintenance of a healthy immune system. Serine is also vital for the neurotransmission process that takes part between the brain and the various nerve endings in the body. Serine is also a component of cell membranes.

As a non-essential amino acid, serine is produced within the body. Sufficient amounts of niacin (vitamin B3), pyridoxamine (vitamin B6) and folic acid are needed in order for serine to be manufactured in the body.

Serine amino acid helps in the production of immunoglobulins and antibodies that contribute to a robust immune system. It also helps in the absorption of creatine, a substance derived from amino acids that helps build and maintain the muscles in the body. Serine is also needed in the production of tryptophan, an amino acid used in making serotonin, a mood-determining brain chemical. In addition to tryptohan, it is also a precursor in the production of Serine and cysteine amino acids.

Serine exists in both the L-Serine and D-Serine forms.
