The coat or skin of grapes used for making red wine also yield antioxidant catechins called resveratrol which has proven to be quite promising in the area of cancer and tumor prevention. The resveratrol compound has been found to be most abundant in the immature or raw grapes.
The grape vine grows as a shrub and is characterized by twisted stems that possess small and round green branches with a lot of large and alternating placed palm shaped leaves. There are small flowers that can be found in groups in a green panicle on the stem.
