Quinoa benefits have long been known since the time of the Incas. This great South American civilization referred to quinoa as "mother of all grains" and the first seeds of a new season would traditionally be sown by the emperor himself.

This grain was believed to have originated from the Andean region of Peru about 3,500 years ago where it was first grown for human consumption. Quinoa was considered second only to potato in importance during the Andean civilization. Maize occupied the third spot.
